How to Prevent Back Pain When Working from Home

Working from a sofa, kitchen table or makeshift desk can put extra strain on your back and neck. A few small adjustments can make your day much more comfortable.

Set up your space

  • Raise your screen so the top is close to eye level.
  • Support your lower back with a cushion or rolled towel.
  • Keep your feet flat on the floor or on a small footrest.
  • Keep your keyboard close so your elbows stay relaxed by your sides.
Stand up, stretch and move around regularly. Your body loves a change of position.

Strengthen your core

Simple exercises such as bridges and gentle planks support your spine and improve posture over time.

Listen to your body

If back pain lasts or spreads to your legs, it is a good idea to have it checked.
